Jasper had a rough birthday this year. The morning of his actual birthday, Jasper and I both woke up with runny noses and the sneezes. I just figured we both had a cold and that we would tough it out and enjoy his birthday weekend anyways. Our friends Scott and Rachel and their adorable son Carson came up Friday night to visit and stay the night. It was so nice having them up to visit and seeing the boys play. That night was one of the worst I have ever had with Jasper. Jasper has never been a great sleeper at night but when he is sick, it is SOOO much worse. He kept waking up so we decided to just let him sleep in our bed. After 2 HOURS of none of us sleeping, we figured out that he couldn't breathe when he laid flat so we had to elevate him. He fell asleep almost instantly. Turned out that Carson had a pretty rough night and wouldn't sleep either.
Mike woke up early Saturday morning to go run a 5K. It was for charity and he got extra credit for running it in his health class. About 30 minutes after he left, Jasper woke and and threw up ALL OVER the bed. What the heck?! We had been so so so lucky to have a very healthy baby who had never been stomach sick before. I thought maybe he would only throw up once and we would be able to go and watch Mike run. Wasn't the case. Jasper threw up about 4 times within 2 hours and was feeling MISERABLE. Poor guy. We called our family and friends and warned them that he was sick and that they didn't have to come to his party. My parents and Kellsie risked it and came anyways, always with Scott, Rachel and Carson who were already here.
Having a sick baby is the worst feeling in the world. He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't drink and he wanted to be held CONSTANTLY. He slowly stopped throwing up everything he ate/drank but started to get the runs. Poor baby.
So the theme for Jasper's party was Monkeys. We had monkey cupcakes and monkey bread. Jasper wasn't so sure about his cupcake. He was feeling horrible but we wanted to see if he would eat it anyways. He ate a little of it and seemed to enjoy it but didn't really enjoy getting sticky with the icing. We let him eat with just a diaper on so we could throw him in the tub and hose him off. Carson really enjoyed tearing in to his cupcake too, lol.
Jasper was really blessed with presents. He wasn't really interested in unwrapping them but liked to check out what it was once the paper was off. Carson helped unwrapping some and enjoying playing with the toys too.
Jasper was sick for several days which was rough on both of us. Especially since I got sick Sunday afternoon. He still wouldn't really eat or drink and would only sleep with me on the air mattress. Seriously, we kept the air mattress up for a week after everyone left. He wanted to be held all the time which makes it really hard to do anything. We took him in to the doctor on Wednesday and she wanted us to feed him nothing but pediasure for 24 hrs. Have you ever tasted that stuff? YUCK! He finally got better but we had to fight to break those habits that he started.
Out of everyone who came to the party, the only people who didn't get sick were Mike and Kellsie. Even Scott's parents caught it from them!
Even though his birthday wasn't that great, we are so grateful to have him in our lives. :)
