Christmas 2012

This Christmas was crazy.  Mike waited to take his paternity leave until after Christmas so that we could spend time with both of our familes.

Christmas eve we drove down to Mike's parent's house.  One of his sisters lives in town and the other one was down visiting.  It was the first time we had all been together for Christmas in 4 years.  We went out to eat at a Chinese buffet for Christmas Eve dinner and Mike and I decided that might be a fun new tradition to make.  My in-law's house was crazy with the kids running around and we had to sleep in the travel trailer because the house was full.  I was really worried about having the boys sleep in the same room together and didn't sleep well because I was trying to keep Mason from waking up Jasper.  Luckily, Jasper is a deeper sleeper than I thought and did great.

Christmas morning was a blast with all the little kids being excited.  My nephew is 5 and really believes in Santa so that was a lot of fun to see.  We could barely get Jasper to open his presents because after he would open one, he would want to play with it and could have cared less about the others.  He got spoiled rotten this year.  We went over to Sarah and Jeff's for a nice ham dinner and the kids played together out in the sand.

That afternoon we drove to my parent's house to spend a couple days with them.  Brent and Cheryl, Timmy, Tracy, and Cherish were all there too.  We had a huge turkey dinner and opened more presents.  Even Mason got spoiled!  Jasper got a "roller coaster" which he absolutely loved until he crashed and burned.  To this day, he still won't get on it.

Both of my sisters were home visiting too so the house was PACKED!  I actually slept out on the landing with Mason so that he wouldn't wake up Jasper in the middle of the night.

We had a blast handing out with my family.  A nice cold front came through and Patrick (who has never really experienced cold weather before) was really enjoying it.  Dad wanted a stump removed in the back yard and Mike took on the project with a vengeance.  That thing burned for like 3 days straight.

With my family all there, I think the only times I really held Mason was when I was feeding him.  Aunt Cheryl had to have her bonding time with him every day and Nat and Wes took plenty of turns holding him.  I was worried cousin Jen was going to take him home with her!  Mom and all of us girls had a nice girl day and went and got our toes down while the men watched the boys.

When Nat and Wes had to fly home, Mike and I drove back down to Bay City to spend some time with Melissa and Kyle before they left.  Again we slept out in the camper and amazingly we had only 1 bad night.  It was funny how different Mike's family was with Mason.  Since they all have babies of their own, they didn't have the same "need" to hold a baby.  Jasper loved the time with is daddy and warmed up to his cousins, especially Michelle.  They even spent time out in Grandpa's garage which Jasper still talks about.

For New Years, we had a nice turkey dinner at Sarah and Jeff's and then went over to the Ethington's for fireworks.  They had all of their kids and their families visiting so there were tons of people.  Jasper really enjoyed the poppers but soon found a tractor in the garage and could have cared less about the fireworks.  Mason did great and wasn't bothered by the fireworks at all.  We put the boys down at their normal bed times and only stayed up a little passed 11.

When Melissa and Kyle left, we finally were able to sleep in the house.  It was nice to able to have a little more quiet.  Scott and I had a small family birthday party (which we haven't had in years!) and then we drove back to my parent's house so that we didn't have to make the whole trip back home at once.

We were so blessed this year at Christmas.  We were lucky to be able to see so much family and be able to spend some much needed time with Mike before he started his last crazy semester before he graduates.
